So, I am going to throw this out there that this is one of the yummiest cakes I have ever had in my life...
I know, it's bold. But, I am willing to go there with this cake...
Chocolate Sheet Cake
Combine in a mixing bowl:
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
In a saucepan, melt:
2 sticks butter
Add 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa.
Stir together.
Add 1 cup boiling water, allow mixture to boil for 30 seconds, then turn off heat.
Pour over flour mixture, and stir lightly to cool.
In measuring cup, pour 1/2 cup buttermilk. (if you don't have the 1/2 buttermilk, pour almost 1/2 regular milk, then pour in white vinegar the rest of the way to make a 1/2 C.)
Add:
2 beaten eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Stir buttermilk mixture into butter/chocolate mixture.
Pour into sheet cake pan and bake at 350-degrees for 20 minutes.
While cake is baking, make icing:
Chop 1/2 cup pecans finely.
Melt 1 3/4 sticks butter in a saucepan.
Add 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa, stir to combine, then turn off heat.
Add:
6 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 lb minus 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Stir together.
Add pecans, stir together, and pour over warm cake.
My boys Love this cake. I could literally eat this whole cake MYSELF, if I wouldn't hate myself in the morning... So, enjoy. And try NOT to eat it all yourself, cake is made for sharin', after all. ***BTW- we're not doing anything tonight, so we can come over if you have cake...

Sounds yummy!!! I am in the middle of making "jello cake". Ever heard of it??? My mil makes it for birthdays and its ever so yummy AND easy..right up my alley!! I plan to post on it and how to make it early next week....I guess we both have cake on the brain :)
I might have to give this cake a shot...although to be honest it sounds like it might take awhile to make it through all the steps.....but if you say it's the BEST cake then I bet it would worth the effort!!
Yes! I agree this is the best cake ever! It sounds like it's a lot of work but really it's not bad at all. My husband has loved everything I have made from the Pioneer Woman Cooks website. It is Pioneer not Prairie although with her sense of humor I think she would enjoy that oopsy.
Blessings!
Heather Kay
